Emergent Child Literacy

How do we support children during the early years to ensure strong foundations for literacy are laid.

Emerging literacy encompasses the knowledge, skills and attitude that a child develops in

relation to reading and writing through the early childhood period  from birth to school entry.

We will look at simple strategies that can be used in daily practice to ensure we maximise the exposure and development of early literacy skills.

Learning Aims -:

  1. Understanding the research and what it means.

  2. How to apply the research into our daily practice.

  3. Have confident practitioners that understand how to meet the needs of early literacy development.

Confirmation of learning questions will need to be completed at the end of the course.
